Trailer Wiring Harness Adapter Installation - 2001 Dodge Ram Pickup

Today on our 2001 Dodge Ram pickup we're going to review and install the Hopkins adapter wiring converter from 4-pole to 7-pole round with 4-pole flat, part number 37185. Now here's what our Hopkins wiring adapter is going to look like once it's installed. The wiring adapter will take the 4-pole flat trailer connector wiring and turn it into a 7-blade connector. Not only can we use a 7-blade connector with this application, but also our standard 4-flat trailer connector. Now let's go ahead and show you how to install it. To begin our install we're going to attach the mounting bracket to the bottom of the bumper for our new 7-pole connector. Using the pre-drilled holes in the bracket and a couple self-tapping screws, we can secure it directly here to the bottom of the steel bumper. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Adapter Installation - 2013 Dodge Durango

Today on our 2013 Dodge Durango, we'll be installing the Hopkins 4-Pole to 7-Pole Adapter, part number 37185.The first step to installing our 7-Way Adapter is going to be to install our bracket up on the mounting point on our hitch. We will take the included hardware, which are the lock nuts and these two Phillips machine screws. We'll line up the holes on our mounting plate and the bracket on the hitch, and we'll drop the Phillips screw through, then put the locking nut on the bottom. Since the screwdriver is a little tough to get in this position, we'll put a socket on the bottom and tighten it that way. With that one snug, we'll move to the other side. Now with the bracket in place, we can mount our 7-Way Connector. Now we'll take our 7-Way Connector, we'll line up the mounting points with the mounting points on our bracket, slide the wire through the opening at the bottom, and once it's in place, we just line up those holes. This is the hardware we'll be using to mount the 7-Way Connector. more

We're going to take the bracket, feed it over the wires, and up to the back of the mounting surface for the 7 pole adapter. Then we'll take the screws, feed them through the front side of the 7 pole and secure it with the nuts on the back side. Once we have all 4 in place we'll go ahead and tighten them down. I'm going to go ahead and take some black electrical tape and wrap up 8 to 10 inches of our wire. This will assist in bundling our wires together and help protect it from the elements. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2004 Dodge Ram Pickup 20250- Video

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2004 Dodge Ram Pickup 20250

Today on our 2004 Dodge Ram Pickup we'll be installing the Tow Ready Four Pole Hardware Kit with Insulated Butt connectors, part number 20250. Now this vehicle is already equipped with a manufacturer's four pole connection. But, as we remove the cap, you'll notice that it's severely corroded and the terminals are starting to breakdown. So we're going to go ahead and cut off the old manufacturer's four pole connection, and then we can hardwire in a new four pole lead. Our new four pole will match color for color, except for the ground wire, which will be black on the manufacturer's side and white on the new four pole lead side. To make easier access now that we've got the end cut off, we'll go ahead and remove the push pin that secure the wiring. Next we'll go ahead and remove the wire loom and any protective covering. We just need a little room to work so we can add our butt connectors. Next, we'll strip back each one of the wires. Now with each wire stripped back, we'll go ahead and add the butt connector. With our butt connectors added, we'll now bring in our four pole lead and match color for color with the exception of our ground wire which we will match black to white. Then we'll go ahead and and wrap up this connection point with some black electrical tape to help keep out any dust, dirt, debris, or moisture. Now with our connection point secure, we'll go ahead and reinstall the push pin fastener and route the wiring to the center of the vehicle and to the hitch. Note we'll secure any wiring as necessary with additional black zip ties, and will cut off the excess of the zip tie to clean up our install look. That does complete our install of the Tow Ready Four Pole Hardware Kit with Insulated connectors, part number 20250, on our 2004 Dodge Ram Pickup. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2005 Dodge Ram 1500

Today on this 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 we are going to install part number 20250 from Tow Ready. What the part number is is it replaces the 4-pole. We are going to use it to replace the very corroded Dodge factory connector. Basically we are going to start off by snipping off the old wires and starting fresh. Now this will almost match up color for color: green to green, yellow to yellow, brown to brown. However, the ground on the factory harness is going to be black. So that will go to white on our replacement part. 0:28 more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2006 Dodge Stratus- Video

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2006 Dodge Stratus

Today we are going to be installing wiring harness part number 46155 from Hoppy on a 2006 Dodge Stratus. OK, we are inside the trunk area, and we are going to go ahead and locate the wiring on the Stratus that we are going to need to tap into with the converter kit. As you can see, we have got some interior covering that is actually covering up the wiring that we are going to need to locate. So the first thing we want to do is remove this rear threshold piece here. There are a few pop rivets that we are going to need to remove. And then, with removing those, we can pull that back and gain access to the wires here on the drivers side. As you can see, the main lead feeding to the passengers side is right here. We can tap into the right-turn signal from this location. The converter that we are going to be using as you can see has five wires to it. We have got the white, which is a ground. We have got a brown, which is the running light lead a yellow, which is the left turn the green, which is the right turn and the red, which is the stop lead. We are going to need to locate each individual function here on the wiring harness and manually attach these wires directly into them. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 1991 Dodge Dynasty

Today we are going to install part number 118172 from Draw-Tite, and we are going to install this on a 1991 Dodge Dynasty. To begin our install, we have to get behind the wiring harness. It is going to be behind the carpet here and here. We are just going to pull away this carpet a little bit and get to the back here. And this is the wiring harness right here, and you can tell it comes from the front to the rear and splits off to the left and the right sides. We have already kind of cut into it so we could see where the wiring was at. And these are our wires. We will go ahead and use our tester and prove which wire does what for what function. more

Trailer Wiring Harness Adapter Installation - 2006 Dodge Ram 1500

Today we are going to install part number 37185 on an 2006 Dodge Ram 1500. And this has the factory 4-pole installed with the vehicle, from the factory. What we are going to do is upgrade this up from a 4-pole to a 7-pole and 4-pole combination. And we are going to start by using this factory cut-out here for the 7-pole itself. It is actually just a cover. It just pops off, and we can install our 7-pole adapter right there. Before we install this into the bumper, we have to do one little modification, because the bumper is just a little bit too small. Basically we are just going to grind the little edge off here, just about 1 inch on the passenger side - just enough to help it pop into place, right here. Go ahead and install it. There it is, just enough room to snap into place. Then we will put our four bolts in to hold it secure. more
